Criteria of a good story

  • Clear characters and place
Your story has one or two main characters. The place and time are easy to understand.

  • Link to history
The story is not real, but it shows something from real history in Northern Ireland (for example: the Troubles, the Peace Line).

  • Simple and correct language
You use short and clear sentences. The grammar and spelling are mostly correct. Use past tense.

  • Feelings and thoughts
The main character shows feelings (for example: fear, hope, sadness). The reader can understand what the character thinks.

  • Good structure
Your story has a beginning, a middle with a problem or event, and a clear ending.

  • Interesting details
Your story has small details (for example: sounds, colors, what people say). These help the reader imagine the story.
