Why is being a friend so hard now?

Sometimes, I feel like something is missing from my life. I can’t remember what it is.

When I talk to someone in person, I realize that I miss interaction and real conversation. As a child, meeting friends was normal. I had many friends and siblings. As I grew up, my friendships became stronger.

Now, we talk to many people online. We use different platforms and chat groups. We send jokes and pictures, but we don’t talk much.

Even though the world is connected, it feels disconnectedCommunication is faster, but it can feel empty. We scroll through our phones and connect with people. We don’t need to go out to be entertained because we have Netflix. But meeting friends is harder now. Many people cancel plans to watch shows at home.

If we don’t meet in person, we don’t feel bad about canceling. A sad emoji is easier than saying we are really disappointed.

I think about leaving social media, but I worry about how my friends will contact me. True friends will always find a way to stay in touch.
