I'm Sarah. I live in the US and I love Valentine's day! Already as kids we couldn't wait for Valentine's day. We always got sweets and my dad bought roses for my mum. We even gifted our teacher self-made Valentine's cards with hearts and a lot of pink. Now as I am older, I still can't wait to get roses and chocolates from secret admirers. At school we can also gift roses to students from our school. Last year I bought ten roses for my friends and was given fifteen in return! This year I even got a special invitation from Jack to go to a restaurant with him :)

Hi, my name is Colin and I could live without Valentine's day! I have three sisters and all of them just love this silly date. Of course, as their only brother I have to spend my pocket money to buy them roses. I don’t want them to be disappointed, so I spend money on roses, that are more expensive than the rest of the year, to make them happy. I’m glad I don’t have a girlfriend who would expect even more than just roses. We live in Canada and in my village the men buy their partners teddy bears, cosmetics and even jewellery.

I'm Samantha, I live in England and we celebrate Valentine's day every year. We usually send cards and gift chocolates and red roses. It’s also very popular to write poems for the people you like. Last year I sent ten roses and fifteen handicraft cards to my friends and people I like. Usually one gets a special gift from one’s boyfriend, but I think it’s nice to get something even when you are not in a relationship.

My name is Matthew and I like Valentine's day. In Australia, only the men give red roses to their wife or girlfriend. Last year I went to a special restaurant with my girlfriend and gave her red roses and a Valentine’s card. What can I say, I am a romantic just like my father. When I was younger, we also sent Valentine's messages via email to our friends, but the older I get the less cards I receive and send.

Hello, I'm Vanessa and in South Africa we celebrate Valentine's day pretty much. I think the Valentine's customs around the world are very similar, but we have one very special custom in South Africa! When we have a loved one, we put his or her name on a pullover or T-Shirt to show who is our special person. Although I have never done it myself, I think it's a nice gesture. Some may think it is embarrassing, but I think it is really brave to show everybody how you feel about someone.
